When you want to lose weight, everyone tells you to burn more calories through exercise, regardless of what’s going on with your diet.
But how should you exercise? Most people think that endurance cardio like running or biking for long periods of time is the best bet because this type of exercise, done long enough, will just burn the most calories.
The more calories you burn, the more fat you lose, right?
No. Studies have shown again and again that burning more calories through exercise is not always better because of something researchers call compensation.
The more cardio you do, the hungrier you get, the more you eat, and the less you move around when you’re not exercising. Sometimes, compensation can be so great that you completely make up for all those calories burnt through greater food intake and less movement during the rest of the day.
In this video we delve into the science of exercise quantity and I point to what might be the best exercise for weight loss (you’ll never guess).
